MNP will go live in the Philippines on 30 September

Filipinos will be able to switch service providers under new mobile network portability (MNP) rules on 30 September, according to Telecommunications Connectivity Inc. (TCI) – the joint venture company set up by the country’s three mobile operators, PLDT’s Smart Communications, Globe Telecom and DITO Telecommunity in January 2020 to oversee the process. TCI has issued a report confirming that it successfully completed a dry-run of technical and interoperability testing with the three network providers on 14 July 2021.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database confirms that the Republic Act No. 11202 (a.k.a. the Mobile Number Portability [MNP] Act) was signed in February 2019, with implementing rules and regulations (IRR) taking effect from 2 July 2019. The Philippines had intended on introducing MNP in the first quarter of 2021 under the remit of the Act, but the rollout was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will start by 30 September 2021.

Globe, Smart and DITO formed the JV consortium TCI, and tapped global firm Syniverse to implement the porting platform.
