Beeline Kazakhstan rolling out 500Mbps GPON fiber

Kazakhstan’s KaR-Tel (Beeline) has begun a rollout of high speed GPON fibre internet access, initially making speeds up to 500Mbps available for selected premises in Kyzylorda only, but promising a much wider deployment and subsequent upgrades to 1Gbps services. Beeline currently provides standard fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) internet with speeds up to 100Mbps, and it highlights in a press release that the fledgling GPON 500Mbps service is based on a direct fibre connection all the way into the end user’s apartment.

KaR-Tel (Beeline) is Kazakhstan’s largest mobile operator by users and second biggest fixed broadband provider. FTTB was launched in Almaty in October 2009 and currently covers 29 cities, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, reporting 506,712 fixed broadband customers at end-March 2021 to give it a 19%-plus market share.
