Subisu deploys Nokia’s 400G fiber solution

Subisu has deployed Nokia’s 400G fiber solution covering 1,500 kilometers long backbone network across East and West Nepal. The ISP says the move is part of modernizing its fiber network to provide ultra-fast fiber internet to both its retailers and corporate users.

After CG Net’s groundbreaking fiber net package arrived recently, the price war has ensued among the ISPs with some already offering cost-effective packages. Now, it seems, the ISPs have also found themselves in an urge to scale up their bandwidth speed to stay competitive.

The Finnish company Nokia says it helped Subisu with the deployment of a 400G single fiber solution. This initiative covers 1,500 kilometers long backbone network across East and West Nepal. Integrating Nokia’s fiber solution will modernize Subisu’s FTTH network and help reach new markets in the country.

As per Nokia’s official statement, Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) platform offers Photonic Service Engine (PSE) enabled 400G single fiber, and bidirectional Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) upgrading Subisu’s current fiber system.

The 400G infrastructure will improve Subisu’s fiber capabilities and allow for ultra-high-speed broadband to its retail and enterprise customers. It means customers will meet their growing bandwidth demands which are fueled further by the COVID-19 lockdown.

“We have been working with Nokia for a long time now, and their industry-leading products and solutions are helping us provide best-in-class broadband services to our subscribers. Nokia was the sole vendor for this important project, and its solutions are enabling us to grow our subscriber base and provide a superior experience to our existing customers even as we future-proof our investments,” said Binaya Saud, CEO of Subisu.

Likewise, Vinish Bawa, Head of Emerging Markets, Nokia India said, “Our field-proven 1830 PSS solution is enabling service providers, like Subisu, to meet the growing capacity demand even as they enhance customer experience. We are pleased with the successful and timely completion of this crucial project to modernize Subisu’s optical network, and we look forward to working with them in the future.”

Nokia is one of the leading firms that manufacture telecommunications equipment. Its cutting-edge fiber solutions help modernize broadband internet service in many countries. Recently, the Finnish company deployed GPON to help CG Net improve its FTTH efficiency and expand its reach in Kathmandu.

Subisu’s latest deployment of Nokia’s fiber solution follows ISPs hastened urge to further enhance their broadband service. Currently, there has been a noticeable hustle and bustle among the ISPs in the country. CG Net’s bumper package of 120Mbps for just Rs.999 has overwhelmed every ISP and triggered a price war.

Adding to that, ISPs have also rushed to integrate modern cutting-edge technologies to improve their internet service. Recently, the Finnish company had deployed its GPON for CG Net to boost its FTTH efficiency in the Kathmandu valley.

The calls for ultra-high-speed internet at an affordable cost are now substantiating for normal users as well as entrepreneurs. This will gradually aid the government’s much-emphasized Digital Nepal Framework.

Subisu is one of the major ISPs in Nepal with its market reach in both cities and rural areas countrywide. Nokia’s 400G solution will augment Subisu’s FTTH bandwidth capacities as well as help it expand its market to new areas.

As the ISPs have found themselves in a competition like never before, Subisu cannot remain untouched. If you are a customer of Subisu, what are your expectations from the Kathmandu-based ISP to ward off challenges ahead? Let us know in the comments.
