Tencent Cloud, the cloud business of Chinese internet giant Tencent, has launched its second internet data centre (IDC) in Thailand to cash in on flourishing demand in cloud computing service.
The Bangkok launch coincides with the unveiling of another three internet data centres in Frankfurt, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Tencent Cloud operates in 27 regions and 66 availability zones worldwide.
According to data from consulting firm Frost & Sullivan, 52% of organisations globally are using cloud services as of 2020, with another 34% expected to add cloud infrastructure within the next two years.
Global tech research firm Gartner forecast worldwide end-user spending on public cloud services to grow 23.1% in 2021 to US$332.3 billion, up from $270 billion in 2020, highlighting the strong growth in cloud computing usage.
"The global cloud industry is quickly evolving and growing," said Chang Foo, chief operating officer of Tencent Thailand. "The same goes for Thailand during the past five years, in which adoption of cloud operating systems has been the country's agenda."
As the world sees the digital economy grow rapidly, enterprise demand for intelligent cloud solutions is on the rise, he said.
Referring to the new data centre in Thailand, he said it is "tier-3 design facilities and located in prime network hub locations right in the heart of Bangkok, providing reliable and high-quality border gateway protocol integrated with major local and international network operators".
Mr Foo said the new data centre ensures enhanced data processing efficiency and flexibility, resulting from a server equipped with the latest advanced technology.
He said support for all ranges of intelligent solutions from Tencent Cloud is also provided, including artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, facial recognition, optical character recognition and live video broadcasting.
In late 2020, Tencent Cloud opened its second availability zone in Korea, followed by the first IDC in Indonesia as well as the third availability zone in Singapore in April this year. The firm is set to launch its second Indonesian IDC and its first in Bahrain by year-end.
"Tencent Cloud is confident the expansion of our second data center in Thailand will help support organisations of all sizes to adapt to faster, more scalable cloud operating systems. More importantly, this development helps raise the bar and can propel Thailand's potential to become the digital hub of Asean shortly," said Mr Foo.
