Citing a large demand for capacity, ODATA, already one of the leading data centre providers in Latin America, has announced plans to speed up the expansion of its data centre rollout in the region where it has been active since it began operations in 2015.
Brazil is the largest and fastest-growing data centre market in Latin America; Ascenty, IBM and Microsoft are among other companies that have recently announced plans to expand their data centre presence in the country.
ODATA says it is well-positioned to capture much of this growth with the recently undertaken building of a new site at its DC SP02 campus in Sao Paulo. The company also plans to start expansion at its existing DC SP01 campus, where it aims to develop two additional campuses this year.
But that’s not all. In Rio de Janeiro the company intends to build a new data centre; the first phase will be operational in 2023.
Meanwhile in Bogotá in Colombia, according to online publication Capacity, ODATA has completed the second phase of its DC BG01 data centre. DC BG01 first opened in late 2019 with a total area of 6,400 square metres,and the capacity to reach 7.8 MW of IT power, making it the largest data centre infrastructure in the country. The new facility has an overall investment of $100 million. Another in-country campus could be on the cards.
Chile is another target market; a wholesale ODATA data centre campus is being developed there too.
Finally, in Querétaro, Mexico, ODATA has made an initial investment of more than $100 million to build a new data centre campus with a total of 52,350 square metres of land and the potential of reaching up to 32MW of IT power. Construction began in January 2021; the first phase is predicted to be completed by the start of 2022.
