Smart Axiata builds 68 network sites in Siem Reap province

Cambodia's telecommunications service provider Smart Axiata has announced it has deployed 68 new network base station sites in the Siem Reap province as part of its USD 90 million investment plan in 2021 to expand and upgrade its network across the Kingdom.

The newly completed sites in Siem Reap are among the 350 new sites announced by Smart in March this year, said the Cambodian operator in a press release.

"The new sites will enhance Smart’s 4G LTE network for users nationwide and helps to ensure the network is fully ready to meet the growing customer demands during the COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown situation," it added.

Smart currently operates more than 3,000 network base station sites across the Kingdom, allowing its 8 million subscribers to enjoy an exceptional digital experience on its 4G LTE network, which covers 91.5% of the population.

"With the rapid adoption of 4G by Smart’s subscribers, Smart is also progressing to gradually shut down its 3G network in 2021, repurposing the residual 3G frequency spectrum for its 4G network," it said.

To showcase the improved network and coverage in Siem Reap, Smart is offering existing prepaid subscribers in the province 1GB of data for free until May 21, which they can redeem in the SmartNas app any day before that date.

For new customers who would like to enjoy the expanded Smart network coverage, a 50% discount on special number Smart 4G SIM cards worth up to 54 USD is being offered when purchased at any Smart Shop or official Smart Dealer across the Kingdom.

Existing Smart 3G customers can upgrade to a 4G SIM card for free, receiving a 900 USD on-net bonus, valid for three months, when they do so.
