WOM Colombia has 4G deployed in 120 municipalities

WOM Colombia unveiled a full suite of pre-paid and post-paid tariffs this week, as it seeks to take the fight to the country’s incumbent operators. The first 150,000 customers who port their number to one of WOM’s post-paid plans between 5 April and 30 April will receive two months of free service, followed by a 20% discount for the next five months. The newcomer boasts a retail network comprising 105 stores and 85 kiosks, and SIM cards will also be made available via major chain stores. Chris Bannister, CEO of WOM Colombia, commented: ‘The big day has arrived: the offer of services that we have designed to take into account the needs of users, their pain and their concerns, is now available!’

In terms of coverage, WOM says that its 4G network has been deployed in 120 municipalities, but connectivity is available in a total 765 municipalities via third-party roaming agreements. By end-2021 the company expects its 4G network to cover a total of 374 municipalities, or 79% of Colombians. Within three years, the operator expects to achieve nationwide coverage, via a total of 8,000 antennas. Meanwhile, 674 rural communities (out of a total of 3,658) will receive 700MHz connectivity from May.
