NDR offers radio stations via DTT

German public broadcaster NDR is adding radio stations to its DTT offering.

The line-up, currently in test mode, comprises NDR Kultur, NDR Info Spezial, NDR Blue, NDR Plus, N-JOY and regional programmes as well as NDR 2 and NDR Info with regional windows, an NDR spokesman told Broadband TV News.

“There are essentially three reasons why NDR distributes its radio channels via DTT,” the spokesperson said. “Firstly, we have an interest in making our radio stations available to our audience on as many distribution infrastructures as possible. At the same time, we are increasing the attractiveness of DTT and also drawing level with other distribution platforms, as the radio channels are already offered via cable and satellite.”

The NDR radio stations are transmitted free-to-air via DVB-T2 and available on every DTT receiver following a channel search. The distribution takes place as part of the DVB-T2 broadcast signal. The devices don’t have to be connected to the internet for reception.

NDR, the regional affiliate of German public broadcaster ARD serving Northern Germany, is the first German broadcaster to offer radio stations on DTT.
