PTCL license renewed for 25 years

The government of Pakistan has renewed the licence of state operator PTCL (Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited) for a further 25 years.

The new validity period began on 1st January 2021. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed that the integrated licence is technology-neutral and permits the company to deliver all telecom services nationwide, with the notable exception of mobile services.

Under the terms of the licence renewal, PTCL must adhere to “enhanced quality of service (QoS) parameters” and will be obliged to deliver a 5% year-on-year rise in Next Generation Access Network (NGAN) connections, reports CommsUpdate.

In addition, PTCL must pay 2% of its annual gross revenues into Pakistan’s Universal Service Fund (USF) and Research and Development Fund.
