Spanish government awards contract for rural fiber deployment

Spanish fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) operator Adamo has been awarded EUR72 million (USD85.7 million) by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation (Ministerio de Asuntos Economicos y Transformacion Digital) to roll out fibre-optic connectivity in rural areas of 19 provinces. Over the next two years, the telco will deploy gigabit-capable services to a total of 450,000 unserved homes in the following provinces: Lleida, Girona, Tarragona, Cantabria, Valencia, Zamora, Leon, Huelva, Badajoz, Asturias, Cordoba, Palencia, Seville, Avila, Cadiz, Valladolid, Lugo, Ciudad Real and Toledo.

In total, EQT-backed Adamo will invest EUR165 million in the project, which falls under the auspices of the New Generation Broadband Extension Programme (Programa de Extension de Banda Ancha de Nueva Generacion, PEBA-NGA).
