Ascenty opens its first data centre in Chile and plans a second

Data centre company Ascenty has announced the opening of the Chile 1 data centre in Santiago, the company's first unit to start operating outside Brazil.

The new unit has an area of 6,000 square metres and a total energy capacity of 11 MW. On the same site a second, even larger data centre is already under construction. This will have an area of 21,000 square metres and energy capacity of 35 MW. It is scheduled to open in the first half of 2021.

Ascenty says that the total investment for the construction of the two units is US $270 million.

The new data centre in Chile, in common with the company’s other data centres, is classified as Tier III and has a tri-bus distribution system that allows generators to function for more than 48 hours without supply.

In addition, it has a high-performance cooling system operating in the technical side aisles. Monitoring is uninterrupted for 24 hours seven days a week, with automatic motion detection in high definition and a trained security team.

Founded in 2010, Ascenty is the largest data centre infrastructure company in Latin America, with 22 units in Brazil, Chile and Mexico; 16 are in operation and six under construction.

Ascenty plans the inauguration of three more new facilities in the region next year. The second unit in Chile will be followed by two more in Mexico.
