Egypt’s Drowzy raises six-figure investment for its D2C furniture eCommerce platform

Cairo-based direct-to-consumer (D2) furniture and home accessories startup Drowzy has raised six-figure (USD) in an investment round from a UAE-based ‘strategic angel investor’, it told MENAbytes, without disclosing the exact size of investment.

Founded in 2017 by two architects; Alaa Khalil & Mohamed Lotfy, Drowzy partners with different small and medium-sized furniture workshops and mini-factories to manufacture the furniture designed by Drowzy’s team and then sell it on its platform. The startup currently sells close to 100 products and about 300 SKUs through its online platform all across Egypt.

Alaa Khalil, the co-founder of Drowzy, speaking to MENAbytes said that the furniture brands in Egypt take up to two months to deliver the furniture mainly because they offer customizations and Drowzy doesn’t. He also explained that even the online marketplaces cannot promise a fixed delivery time to customers as they work with different brands for different products, “Our value proposition is a mix of the convenience of buying online, fast delivery, affordability, and durability.”

Drowzy, he said delivers all its products across the entire country within six to ten days of receiving the order. They’re aiming to bring this down to two to three days by the end of this year.

Commenting on how they plan to use the investment, Mohamed Lotfy explained that a part of it will be used to grow further in Egypt and add more products to their catalog, hire more resources and launch a Do-It-Yourself line of products.
