Luxembourg kicks off auction for 5G frequencies

The Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (ILR) has launched its action for two (out of three) radio frequencies used for 5G services this Monday.

Five telecom companies (Post, Orange, Luxembourg Online, Eltrona, and Proximus) were accepted as bidders. The two sets of frequencies amount to 700 and 3600MHz respectively.

The selection procedure had kicked off on 13 March 2020. The media and communication ministry announced on 11 June that the five telecom companies cited above had qualified as bidders.

Licenses are valid for 15 years. At least one 5-year extension is possible. According to ILR, the auctions may last several days. The successful bidders will be named after the auction.
