Azerfon (Nar), Azerbaijan’s third largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscribers, has announced that its LTE user base grew 66% year-on-year to surpass one million in the first quarter of 2020.
The cellco claims this was driven by network expansion, rising 4G smartphone penetration and the launch of affordable data bundles and tariffs, which resulted in 51% growth in the volume of data traffic compared with the same period of 2019. Azerfon, which has over 2.3 million subscribers, activated around 50 new 3G and 4G/4.5G base transceiver stations (BTS) in Q1, expanding its LTE network footprint to more than 93% of the country’s territory. The company notes 67% of its 4G users live in Baku.
