Telenor Pakistan highlights network sharing

Telenor Pakistan has become the third mobile network operator to successfully test 5G in the country, according to reports in the press.

Speaking to reporters from Pakistani news site, Dawn, Telenor Pakistan CEO, Irfan Wahab Khan, said that the country needed to make a concerted effort on 5G, with operators needing to open up to network sharing arrangements, as they have in other countries around the world.

“The world is moving ahead and the telecom companies were sharing far more things but in Pakistan we all are still investing basic structures like towers,” he said.

According to a report in The Nation, Telenor Pakistan recently achieved the country’s fastest 5G triabl speeds to date, clocking download speeds of 1.5Gbps. The company also showcased a range of UHDTV and 4K streaming use cases at an industry event held at the company’s 345 campus.

Telenor has 46 million mobile network subscribers in Pakistan and has invested over $4.5 billion in research and development and capital expenditure in the country. Telenor has been a central force in Pakistan’s telecommunications industry for the past 15 years.
