Movistar Venezuela plans to double 4G footprint

Movistar Venezuela has confirmed that it has extended its 1700MHz LTE network to Maracay and Puerto Ordaz, meaning it now covers a total of eleven cities. Existing 4G locations include Caracas, La Guaira, Puerto La Cruz, Margarita, El Tigre, Cumana, Valencia, Maracaibo and Barquisimeto. The network uses the 1700MHz AWS band.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Descifrado, company president Jose Luis Rodriguez Zarco has disclosed that the cellco plans to invest USD10.5 million in the deployment of 339 new 4G nodes [i.e. cell sites], taking the total number of 4G cell sites to around 1,000.

The infrastructure will be deployed in Maturin, Barinas, Acarigua, San Antonio, Los Teques, San Cristobal, Cabimas, Ciudad Ojeda, Guarenas and Guatire. The rollout is expected to take place in the second quarter of 2020 and will be completed by end-June.
