Mobile internet data speeds double in most French overseas territories

French regulator Arcep has published its second report on mobile coverage and quality of service across the French overseas territories, highlighting a clear improvement compared with 2018. Based on 227,000 measurements, the report found a two-fold increase in average download speeds for most of these markets, driven by ongoing investment in LTE services from operators.

Customers in Reunion experienced the most significant change, as the average download speed more than doubled to approximately 50 Mbps in the period from mid-2018 to mid-2019. The performance of the two more established networks, Orange and SFR, was similar on most indicators.

In Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guiana, Orange topped the rankings with SFR following in second position, and also led across the great majority of indicators in Saint-Barthelemy and Saint-Martin. SFR achieved the best scores in Mayotte on most metrics, although Orange customers experienced the fastest download speeds.
