Ultrafast broadband available in thousands more homes

Virgin Media has connected thousands more homes and businesses across the UK to its ultrafast broadband network.

Residents and businesses in areas including Wallasey in Merseyside, Ossett in West Yorkshire, Hyde in Tameside and Sion Mills in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, will now be able to access broadband which is up to 16 times faster than local average speeds.

This is all part of Virgin Media’s Project Lightning network expansion programme, which will bring average top speeds of 516Mbps to residents and small businesses. In all of these areas, users will benefit from fibre to the premises technology, which allows for smooth and reliable connectivity in the property.

With a 516Mbps connection, files, films and games become unbelievably quick to stream, download and upload. For example, an average HD movie file of around 5GB will take just two minutes to download, and a 25GB console game will download in just 10 minutes.

Paul Hutchinson, regional director for north west England at Virgin Media, said: “Residents and businesses can now start to enjoy the benefits of our incredible services. Giving them the UK’s fastest widely available broadband speeds will enable them to do the things they need to do and love doing more quickly and more easily.”

Combining broadband, TV, home phone and mobile into one bundle, Virgin Media’s Oomph packages offers outstanding value for customers. This includes the fastest broadband and a data-rich 4G mobile SIM on a network that’s faster on average than many of its competitors.

Plus there’s brilliant TV with two of Virgin TV’s latest V6 set-top boxes and more than 280 channels including Sky Sports HD, Sky Cinema HD and BT Sport in 4K Ultra HD when you opt for the Ultimate Oomph bundle.
