Cuba progresses in implementing 4G/LTE technology

The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) is working on access to 4G/LTE technology from the installation of 301 nodes of this type in the country, while it expects to continue the development of infrastructure to reach all regions, executives of the entity told ACN.

Frank Pavon Carbonell, director of ETECSA central division of mobile services, said that this network is not implemented yet in the provinces of Pinar del Rio, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus and in the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud; the idea is that before the year ends all provincial capitals have at least one node.
Meanwhile Havana, since the process began last March, has 133 4G/LTE radio base sites deployed across its 15 municipalities, the official added.
At present, the process of providing the 4G/LTE service to prepaid customers is being undertaken. Although there are devices that the entity does not have identified in its database, users can go to the commercial offices and implement the service automatically, as long as the device supports this technology.
Likewise, ETECSA insists on the need for the population to be aware of the actions they can take in their devices in order to save data volume, such as restricting background processes, using automatic updates and eliminating little-used applications, among others.
The 4G/LTE network has more broadband than 3G technology and during 2019 it has been implemented in the most economically and socially impacted areas of the country.
