Smartfren expands 4G LTE to West Kalimantan

Indonesia’s PT Smartfren Telecom (Smartfren) has switched on its 4G LTE mobile network in Pontianak and Singkawang as part of efforts to improve its network and services in West Kalimantan. IndoTelko quotes the cellco’s head of sales, Dedi Irawan, as saying that Smartfren has launched its Singkawang and Pontianak starter cards in the new areas, priced at IDR60,000 (USD4.24). Upon activation, the mobile user gets a quota of 30GB per card, plus free unlimited phone calls to other Smartfren numbers, and ten minutes of free off-net calls.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database Smartfren closed out 30 June 2019 with 17.8 million 4G LTE subscribers on its books, up from 12.3 million at the start of the year, with strong gains coming on the back of its popular ‘unlimited’ starter packs. The Sinar Mas Group subsidiary has 23,472 4G LTE base transceiver stations (BTS) on air, up from 19,032 BTS at the start of the year.
