Zain Iraq CEO, Ali Al-Zahid, awarded ‘Best Telecom CEO in the Middle East’

Ali Al-Zahid, Zain Iraq CEO has been named the Middle East's Best CEO in the Telecommunications Industry for 2019 by the Dubai based CEO Middle East magazine. The announcement was made during the magazine’s annual conference held in Dubai on 23 September that recognizes and rewards the characteristics of great leadership based on integrity, passion, courage, creativity and vision as the hallmarks that drives true success.

Al-Zahid topped the list of nominees for the award, two years after his appointment as CEO of Zain Iraq, one of Zain Group's leading mobile and data communications companies, which has maintained its leadership position in Iraq despite challenging economic and social conditions.

Expressing his gratification at receiving the award, Al Zahid indicated it reflects the successes achieved by Zain Iraq as an institution, and the company’s commitment to fulfilling its brand promise to the Iraqi people with respect to unlocking opportunities for the community it serves and to strengthen the national telecoms sector by providing exceptional customer service.

“It is a great honor to have been recognized in this way; and I receive this award on behalf of the 1884 employees at Zain Iraq. Without them, this success would not have been possible. I would like to thank all my staff for their dedication and professionalism to keep Zain Iraq as the market leader, and to contribute to the country’s telecoms and technology sectors in the manner that we do. As the largest telecom operator in the country with a base of over 15 million customers, our success is inextricably linked to the success of the Iraqi people,” Al-Zahid said.

He continued, “Winning the award would also have not been possible without the inspiration of family, friends, and a Board of Directors that believes in management’s abilities and works to provide the necessary support to achieve the best outcome.”

Al-Zahid joined Zain Iraq in 2013 as Director of Sales, bringing broad and in-depth experience in organizational leadership and development, brand, marketing and commercial strategies in fast growing telecom markets across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. His successful achievements saw him promoted to Chief Commercial Officer in mid-2015 and then CEO of Zain Iraq in February 2017.

CEO Middle East magazine’s annual conference honored 16 winners at a ceremony from diverse economic sectors including telecommunications, banking, healthcare, construction and others.
