Movistar Peru brings 4G to underserved areas in Cusco

Movistar Peru (Telefonica) has announced plans to expand 4G services to the city of Cusco in the Peruvian Andes. Around 70,000 local residents can already access high-speed broadband connectivity at speeds up to 15 times the previous capacity, rising to 170,000 by the end of the year, said the operator.

The rollout is part of the "Internet para todos" initiative with Facebook, BID Invest and CAF announced last year to connect more than 100 million people in Latin America to the internet, including 6 million in Peru alone. Nearly 4,900 underserved Peruvian localities already have access, with the company aiming to connect 1 million residents by the end of 2019.
