Russian mobile operators improve LTE footprint

Four major Russian mobile operators raised the number of LTE base stations by 21 percent in January-July of this year, according to a study from regulator Roskomnadzor. The operators ran 296,930 LTE base stations on 1 August.

Mobile operator Megafon owned 101,797 LTE base stations, up by 16 percent since the beginning of the year. MTS followed with 70,149 LTE base stations, up by 13 percent. Tele2 Russia owned 69,689 LTE base stations, up by 34 percent while Beeline owned 55,295 LTE base stations, up by 27 percent.

The increase in the number of LTE base stations totaled 14 percent in the Central federal district: 88,617 LTE base stations operated there. The number of LTE base stations went 28 percent higher in the Volga federal district to 51,505.

LTE base stations made up 39 percent of all of the base stations of the four major mobile operators.
