Telekom Srbija is ready to introduce the 5G network, the company's CEO Predrag Culibrk said at Digital 2019, a regional conference on trends in telecommunications and media.
"We do not have much choice when it comes to 5G. We will have to invest in that network and compete for 5G licences," Culibrk told a panel of regional leaders in the telecoms sector.
Telekom Srbija will also build a thousand base stations for the 4G network, he added.
Over the past year, Telekom Srbija has acquired a large number of cable operators in the region but has been under pressure for years due to declining revenues from landline telephony services, he said.
"For seven or eight years now, we have been losing 2-3 bln dinars worth of net revenues a year, which is often recorded as loss of direct profit. It is a result of a loss of landline telephony traffic because there are fewer and fewer interested customers," Culibrk said.
