Tigo launches 4G ‘Home Internet’ service

Millicom Tanzania, which operates under the brand name Tigo, has launched its 4G ‘Home Internet’ service which utilises a router or modem to connect customers to broadband at home. Subscription bundles range from TZS15,000 (USD6.5) for a data allowance of 12GB (valid for seven days) to TZS120,000 for 200GB (30 days), while the modem and router devices are priced TZS150,000 and TZS250,000, respectively. Customers are able to purchase Home Internet bundles using the ‘Tigo Pesa’ app. Tigo launched a 4G LTE network in April 2015 and rolled out an LTE-A service in September last year, notes TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.

‘Customers’ insights reveal that access to reliable and convenient internet in the home setting has become increasingly critical, however the user experience in managing the service and being in control is equally important to the customer,’ noted Tigo’s CCO, Tarik Boudiaf, adding: ‘Customers can now simply manage and control their routers or modems from their own mobile phones. Our goal is to ensure that every customer who needs internet connectivity at the convenience of their homes across the country stays connected at all times without any qualms.’
