Streaming media platform Plex has signed an agreement with Warner Bros Domestic Television Distribution to expand its collection of third-party content.
Through this distribution arrangement, Plex will be supplying free, ad-supported movies and TV shows to its millions of US users later this year.
Today’s AVOD news is yet another step for Plex toward taming the growing media chaos. Plex delivers more types of third-party content than any other platform in a single, elegant app, soon adding free, ad-supported premium movies and TV, to its existing line up of content, including live and recorded over-the-air TV, with news and sports, podcasts, popular web shows, trustworthy news, and over 60 million streaming music tracks via Tidal.
“A growing part of the pain of today’s consumer media experience is that content is fragmented across multiple services and apps, making it hard for users to hunt down their favorite movies and shows while also discovering new favurites,” Plex said in a statement.
“Plex helps users easily discover related content they might enjoy with cross-content-type recommendations and intelligent discovery features. This advanced technology refines its suggestions with use to ensure users continuously get served content they’ll enjoy based on what they’ve already watched or listened to.
“In addition, with its robust and transparent streaming media platform, Plex puts content providers back in control of their brand by gaining actionable insights into content popularity, user engagement, and viewer usage data (all available on an affirmative opt-in basis by Plex users). Both advertisers and content providers will reach new viewers on an international scale with unprecedented insights, data, and analytics — more than any other streaming service.”
Plex does not yet have specific content titles or an availability date. Additional details of the agreement were not disclosed.
