XL Axiata expands 4G LTE network in South Sulawesi

Mobile network operator (MNO) XL Axiata has been aggressively deploying its 4G LTE network to improve the quality of data services in South Sulawesi, noting that its latest expansion takes in the area of East Luwu. Head of Sales of XL Axiata in South Sulawesi, Mozes Haryanto Baottong, said that the rollout reflects the region’s ‘high strategic value’ and ‘great economic potential’, especially now there is also ‘a large-scale mining industry operating there’.

The MNO has installed around 60 4G base transceiver stations (BTS) in East Luwu, the most recent being in Sorowako Village, Nuha District. As a result of XL Axiata’s efforts, as at 31 July 2019 it served all 24 cities/regencies in South Sulawesi province with 3G/4G mobile services, supported by approximately 3,000 BTS, of which more than 1,100 are 4G-enabled. The previous month the cellco reported some 930,000 customers throughout South Sulawesi, including around 910,000 classed as ‘active data customers’.

Meanwhile, for the whole of Sulawesi, XL’s 3G/4G data network is now available in 63 cities/regencies, with a total support of around 5,000 BTS. Further, it notes that its 4G network is live in 52 cities/regencies, backed by around 1,800 BTS.
