Filipino gov’t keen to forge ahead with common tower policy

The government of the Philippines is reported to be keen to forge ahead with plans to issue a common tower policy, replete with comprehensive rules and guidelines governing passive telecommunications infrastructure sharing in the country.

The Philippine Star newspaper cites Gregorio Honasan, Secretary for the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), as saying ‘yes, that’s a guarantee’, and confirming the agency hopes to have a new draft version of the policy released and presented within the next two months. ‘What we want is to hear everyone. That’s why it should be a product of consensus among the players. A tower policy is an enabler,’ Honasan is quoted as saying, adding that ‘we would not allow the legal issues to slow down the process. We want to make it as predictable as possible within a regime of a level playing field.’
