BluTV spreads its reach following Jawwy TV tie-up

Turkish video-on-demand (VOD) service BluTV has attracted 4.2 million customers, with subscriptions on the rise in the Middle East after launching there too in the second half of 2018.

BluTV is now building a partnership with Saudi Telecom (STC)’s over-the-top service Jawwy TV, to help spread its reach among Arabic speakers.

Turkey is among the top five exporters of TV series in the world, with a strong following in Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The company aims to be the first Turkish over-the-top (OTT) service to bring Turkish content to these regions.

In 2017 Turkish TV exports amounted to US$300 million, and BluTV expects this to increase to $1 billion by 2023.

Launched in Turkey in 2016, BluTV airs original productions such as the popular Masum (Innocent), which the company said attracted 2 million views. “So far, all of our original shows have scored an IMDB rating above 8.0,” said Dogan Yalcindag, founder and CEO, BluTV.

“We are happy with the growth we see in the Turkish market. In 2018, we have quadrupled our subscriber base in Turkey, and this was done without any distribution deals, on a purely direct-to-consumer basis.”

In addition to its original TV programming in Turkish, BluTV offers library content to its subscribers. Abroad, the platform’s Turkish content will be offered alongside local shows that share similar traits, added Yalcindag.

After MENA, LATAM is the next goal for BluTV’s global expansion — particularly the markets of Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Peru and Puerto Rico.BluTV spreads its reach following Jawwy TV tie-up
