iflix inks Globe Telecom, Telkomsel partnerships

iflix is teaming up with Globe Telecom for distribution of its video-on-demand (VOD) service in the Philippines, and for co-production initiatives with its Globe Studio arm.

Under the deal, over 65 million Globe users will be able to activate iflix VIP plans through carrier billing. While new original content, set to premiere on iflix in 2019, will be jointly produced by the two parties.

In addition, the strategic partnership will see iflix become the streaming platform for popular shows from Globe Studios, beginning with Elements: The Series, which is set to stream before the end of the year.

“This historic agreement brings iflix and Globe together as industry leaders of content and technology committed to creating exceptional user experiences. The partnership with Globe further represents best practices in how iflix drives strategic value for our partners across their core telecom business, as well as new verticals such as content, for the benefit of their customers,” said Mark Britt, co-founder and CEO, iflix.

Globe president and CEO, Ernest Cu added: “Globe further strengthens its commitment to provide platforms for local artists and filmmakers and give viewers access to the very best in local entertainment. Together with our partners such as iflix, we will change what local primetime means: the Filipino consumer can now watch TV anytime they want, anywhere they are.”

Access to movies and TV shows on iflix costs from P29 for Globe mobile customers through GoWATCH, and P19 for EasyWATCH for TM customers.

In addition to the Philippines initiative, iflix has inked a deal with PT Telekomunikasi Selul (Telkomsel) in Indonesia, to distribute its VOD content across the populous nation. The partnership includes integrated carrier billing.

Telkomsel subscribers can access iflixVIP services from Rp1,300 a day through their mobile account. Monthly iflixVIP plans will be priced at Rp39,000 per month.

These latest deal makes the Kuala Lumpur based VOD service available over one billion consumers throughout Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, iflix claims.
