Cyta to launch FTTH services in Cyprus

Cypriot incumbent telco Cyta has issued a press release stating that it expects to launch commercial fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services ‘in late July’, offering broadband speeds up to 160Mbps (download) for residential subscribers (‘Internet Home’) and up to 1Gbps for B2B customers (‘Internet Business’).

Cyta added that it will expand FTTH coverage gradually to cover 200,000 homes over the next ten years, with 60% of the project to be completed in four years. Elsewhere on Cyta’s website it indicates that upload speeds will reach up to 120Mbps. TeleGeography notes that Cyta currently offers ADSL2+, VDSL2 and VDSL2 Vectoring broadband services, and has also deployed bonding technology to boost internet speeds over copper last-mile connections, but until now it has restricted FTTH rollouts to pilot services.
