ST Engineering, SP Group launch trial IoT-as-a-Service platform

Singapore’s ST Engineering Electronics, energy utilities group SP Group and the companies’ joint venture SP Telecom has launched a trial pay-per-use IoT-as-a-Service platform for enterprises.

The platform will be offered on a subscription basis to help enterprises and IoT partners move into the IoT space faster and more cost efficiently, with services delivered through a centralized IoT platform.

Resources can be shared without requiring costly investments in infrastructure, connectivity, data analytics and applications.

This platform will be equipped with advanced data analytics to generate greater insights for predictive actions, and has been built to optimize shared computing resources while maintaining independent, secure operations and control for subscribers.

IoT partners will be able to use the platform to jointly build smart city applications such as smart, energy-efficient, green buildings. Deployment scenarios include public safety and security systems, transport, public amenities such as street lighting, energy and water resource management, and lift monitoring.

Meanwhile ST Engineering has announced a deal to supply its Agilis Multi-Band Block Up Converters to global communications provider Orbit Communications Systems.

The contract is aimed at strengthening Orbit’s VSAT system with converters enabling higher uplink data transmission rates and seamless transfer between new space and legacy satellites.

“We are proud of the support and confidence our customers have in our ability to meet their stringent requirements,” ST Engineering Electronics GM for Satcom & Sensors Systems Goh Wai Pheng said.

“Our in-depth understanding of our customers’ satellite business needs, coupled with our highly engineered portfolio of satellite communications solutions, has enabled us to implement new and improved connectivity to meet unprecedented data demands from businesses and applications worldwide.”
