Spanish FTTH charge continues

The take-up of FTTH is growing rapidly in Spain, with the country gaining a further 1.8 million lines in the year to April 2018.

Data published by the regulator CNMC shows that there were a total of 7.3 million lines in April and that the number increased by 150,893 during the month.

Almost half of the total (49.4%, or 3.58 million) were supplied by Movistar, and CNMC also notes that the rapid growth in FTTH is in contrast to the decline in DSL, which lost 1.3 million lines in the year to April.

In addition, it says that the three main operators – Movistar, Orange (including Jazztel) and Vodafone (including Orange) – account for 91% of all fixed broadband lines in Spain.
