The final objective is for the 5G auction to be held by the end of next year, National Authority for Management and Regulation for Communications in Romania (ANCOM) head Sorin Grindeanu announced. The body put up today for public consultation the master plan and national calendar for the allocation of the 700 MHz bandwidth.
According to ANCOM head Sorin Grindeanu, the action plan for the auction of the 700 MHz bandwidth is a component of the future strategy on the bandwidth attribution for the implementation of the 5G technology the body wants to elaborate and adopt by the end of this year.
The 700 MHz (694-790 MHz) is important for providing an extensive coverage, especially in the areas that are less profitable from the point of view of investments, such as the rural, mountainous and remote areas. The bandwidth enables an effective coverage of a wide area, such as an improved coverage inside buildings.
Romania needs to comply with EU regulation, which says that members states should adopt and publish, no later than 30 June 2018 their national plan and timetable. the so-called national roadmap is a document containing detailed measures for the fulfillment of their obligations regarding allocation and use of the radio spectrum in the 470-790 MHz frequency band.
