Senegal opens up USSD market to providers of value-added services

Senegal regulator ARTP has announced a new regulation opening up access to USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Services Data) codes to providers of value-added services. Previously the monopoly of mobile network operators, the USSD market has been under review since 2016, when the regulator started a consultation process aimed at establishing under which conditions providers of value-added services could gain access to these codes.

The new rules aims to increase competition and innovation, as well as contribute to lower prices for end-users accessing USSD-based services such as payments and money transfers.
