MVNE to launch independent 4G network in Sao Paulo

Brazilian mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE) EUTV (Surf Telecom) has divulged plans to deploy an independent 4G-capable network covering the Sao Paulo metropolitan area. Company president Yon Moreira da Silva told TeleTime that the firm is in the process of securing space on cell towers and purchasing radio equipment, ahead of a provisional launch in the third quarter of 2018. Surf Telecom has held a 15MHz block of 2.5GHz spectrum since 2016, and has long harboured plans to launch a 4G network in the country’s most populous city.

TeleGeography notes that Surf Telecom has facilitated the launch of a number of Brazilian MVNOs in recent years, including Correios Celular, Veek and GospelCel. Surf-affiliated MVNOs use TIM Brasil as a network partner.
