Telekom kicks off FTTH project to connect 40,000 homes

Telekom Deutschland, the domestic fixed and mobile operating unit of Deutsche Telekom (DT), has embarked on the rollout of a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network in Vorpommern-Rugen, a district in the north of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Around 40,000 homes and business will be covered by the project, which will see a total of 1,700km of fibre-optic cables deployed. Telekom says it expects that the first customers will be able to access connection speeds of up to 1Gbps by the end of this year, with the work scheduled for completion by the close of 2019.

In total, Telekom plans to deploy 60,000km of fibre-optic cables this year, up from the 40,000km installed in 2017.
