KCOM names next locations for fiber rollout

Hull-based KCOM has unveiled the next locations that will benefit from its ongoing rollout of fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) technology, as it continues what it termed the ‘final phase’ of its ‘Lightstream’ deployment. From this month around 2,000 properties in the HU7 postcode and in Sutton Park will be able to connect to the operator’s fibre infrastructure, which offers downlink speeds of up to 350Mbps for residential users, and 1Gbps for businesses. Meanwhile, KCOM has said it will then continue to make the service available in the remaining parts of its network, extending its rollout to more than 9,000 properties in Little Weighton, Walkington, Skidby, Hessle, Boulevard and Beverley Road between March and July this year, while a further 6,400 properties in Bransholme will be connected ‘in the autumn’.

KCOM has set out its stall to complete its Lightstream rollout by March 2019, covering 100% of its network and more than 200,000 properties. Commenting on the latest developments, KCOM’s chief marketing officer Cathy Phillips said: ‘We are delighted to be able to bring the benefits of full fibre broadband to more properties in north Hull as part of our Lightstream roll out … We’re well on the way to bringing our ultrafast service to every corner of our Hull and East Yorkshire network. In the coming months thousands more people and businesses will be able to enjoy the fastest and most reliable internet speeds in the country.’
