Magyar Telekom expands 1Gbps broadband to 800,000 homes

Hungary’s Magyar Telekom reports that in 2017 it covered 270,000 additional households with 30Mbps-plus fixed broadband – 40% of which can connect to its gigabit-capable fibre-optic network. The expansion means that 30Mbps-plus broadband covers more than three million households, whilst its gigabit services (1Gbps-2Gbps) cover 800,000 homes. Rollouts in the year reached cities, suburban areas and small settlements. Telekom’s goal in 2018 is to cover an additional 300,000 homes with high speed broadband, 98% of which should be able to access gigabit optical speeds, and one-third of which can be funded by EU resources.

Magyar Telekom’s mobile division, meanwhile, has connected the 2,700th small settlement to its 4G LTE network, taking outdoor LTE coverage to 99% of the population, the company announced on its website.
