Ajayameru Rural Municipality will transform itself into ‘e-rural municipality’ by mid-July this year, the municipality’s top executive has said.
The e-rural municipality plan for one of Nepal’s remote rural municipalities in Dadeldhura district could come to fruition before the next fiscal year. Elected people’s representatives and employees have been working to this end.
The work to connect all the government and non-government offices, schools and health facilities to the Internet is in final stage so that the rural municipality can directly monitor these service providers while giving services to the people. Ajayameru Rural Municipality Executive Officer Khemraj Paudel said, “We have already started preparations to establish Ajayameru e-rural municipality. The infrastructure is ready and the e-rural municipality would be launched by mid-July.
“We are going to do e-attendance of all government employees in the rural municipality from mid-February. Now, the officials can easily monitor the work of government offices through information technology,” said Paudel. He expects the pace of development work will increase and people would be able to avail services quickly due the electronic interface.
Local residents welcome the e-rural municipality initiative. “Preparations are on to establish Ajayameru as the first e-rural municipality, possibly the first of its kind in Nepal. This rural municipality has proved that the development activities gather momentum if there is political will,” said Madan Raj Bhatta, a local resident.
Chairman of the rural municipality Umesh Bhatta said they have started computer education in all of the schools.
“We will also start one English medium community school in each ward from
the next fiscal year. Preparation are one for this,” said Umesh.
The rural municipality has set up modern health laboratories in almost all the wards. The rural municipality said that those laboratories can carry out 40 different tests. “We have made plans prioritising heath, education, road and agricultural products,” said the rural municipality chief.
According to the National Census of 2011, the population of rural municipality is around 17,000.
