Delta offers interactive IPTV platform

Dutch cable operator Delta, that serves the province of Zeeland, is soft-launching a new interactive IPTV platform this month.

In August, the cabler announced it is to switch off all analogue television and radio during 2018. In addition to its digital cable offering, Delta is now also introducing an IPTV service, which can be accessed on regular TV sets (with a dedicated STB), smart phones, tablets and computers.

The new service allows for a host of new interactive features, including an EPG, pause live TV, restart a programme, catch-up programming, cloud-PVR recording, series linking, and more.

Hilversum-based developer Stoneroos is responsible for the set-top box application, the iOS and Android apps for smartphones and tablets, and the web applications. When viewing the new IPTV on a regular TV set, people need the STB, but for all other devices the Delta TV is a true TV Everywhere service.

Delta customers can rent the IPTV set-top, which is provided by Amino, for EUR 3.50 per month, with the first six months offered free.

Customers need to buy broadband from Delta in order to use the new service.

Delta serves over 140,000 households and businesses mainly in the Dutch province of Zeeland, and is the second largest cable operator in the country, after Ziggo. Delta’s hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) network of over 6,000 km passes 192,000 homes, which corresponds to ~90% of the total number of homes in Zeeland.

Last year, Swedish investment firm EQT Infrastructure acquired Delta, last November EQT also bought Caiway.
