Movistar kicks off open-source IPTV project in Latin America

Movistar has started delivering Wyplay-powered, open source IPTV set-top boxes across some of its key markets in Latin America.

Following an agreement signed over a year ago, the telco has now announced the deployment of its new IPTV solution based on Frog Source software from Wyplay.

Thus, the open solution becomes part of the ecosystem of middleware components providers for (Movistar's parent company) Telefónica IPTV STB. The agreement doesn’t affect the ongoing deals Telefónica has with other vendors and providers, such as Arris.

According to the French company, thanks to Wyplay´s middleware, Telefónica has the flexibility to adapt new video services to different technologies, such as over-the-top (OTT), and different markets in a more simple and agile way.

Since the Spanish telco selected the Wyplay Frog Source solution, in December 2016, the software provider has worked closely with Telefónica, providing professional support, training and development to customise the final product.

“With a small team of highly productive engineers, an operator can deploy a solution in less than one year,” said Jacques Bourgninaud, Wyplay CEO. “This first successful Telefonica project deployment confirms our Frog Source strategy.”
