Andorra Telecom completes FTTH network overhaul

Andorra Telecom successfully completed the overhaul of its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network on 14 December, meaning that it replaced all 35,000 end-user optical network terminals (ONTs) in just 229 days. As a result, all customers will now be able to access downlink transmission speeds of up to 300Mbps. The work was carried out in conjunction with Chinese vendor Huawei, which was handed the contract in March this year.

The landlocked micro-state of Andorra became the first nation to reach 100% coverage with FTTH technology back in May 2010. Further, in early November 2014 Andorra Telecom reported that it had deactivated its DSL network, making it the first country in the world to claim an all-fibre broadband sector.
