Natgeo launches new VOD platform

Fox Networks Group Europe & Africa is launching a new VOD platform in Greece, Denmark and South Africa in cooperation with local partners.

The new service will provide access to the catalogue of National Geographic when the service debuts in 2018.

Through partnerships with black, a division of mobile operator Cell C, YouSee and the OTE Group for inclusion in Cosmote TV, National Geographic+ will launch in South Africa, Denmark and Greece, with further deals to be announced in the new year.

“Consumers are at the heart of our non-linear services; people are used to marathon viewing for scripted, but there hasn’t been a simple and effective way to offer similar experiences within Factual,” said Jan Koeppen, President, Fox Networks Group, Europe & Africa.

“At National Geographic, we are passionate about taking our viewers further, to encourage exploration and a better understanding of the world in which we all live. By introducing National Geographic+, we are combining our 129 years of visual storytelling with our rich history of product innovation to ensure that factual stands out in the on-demand world.”

Short form and 4K will also be an important part of the new service, National Geopgraphic+ is not an OTT service, as it will be integrated into the distributor’s platforms, and will be available on the go, across multiple screens along with download for offline viewing capabilities.

The new platform follows the debut of Fox+ earlier in the year. Already available in nine countries across the region, with more launches to come in 2018, the entertainment focused product offers on-demand access to content library of 21st Century Fox.
