MEO outlines 4G+ targets

PT Portugal, which trades as MEO, has disclosed plans to extend its ‘4G+’-branded LTE-A mobile network to half the Portuguese population by the end of this year. Local business site Jornal de Negocios quotes Michel Combes, CEO of parent company Altice Group, as saying that 4G+ coverage will then be extended to 70% of the Portuguese population by June 2018. LTE-A coverage is currently available in locations such as Lisbon, Porto, Santarem, Caldas da Rainha, Peniche, Rio Maior, Santa Maria da Feira and the Algarve. In terms of fixed line coverage, the telco expects to reach 5.2 million homes with its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network by 2020, up from around four million at present.
