Telekom boosts broadband speeds for a further 3.5 million homes

Telekom Deutschland, the domestic fixed and mobile operating unit of Deutsche Telekom (DT), has revealed that an additional 3.5 million households in almost 50 cities are able to access maximum fixed broadband download speeds of 100Mbps. A further 2.5 million homes are expected to follow by February 2018. ‘This work shows that we are making an important contribution to Germany’s creation of a nationwide digital infrastructure. Other people keep talking about connections of the future. We are building them today. We are meeting the demand for more broadband – right now,’ commented DT’s CEO Timotheus Hottges. The speed increases were made possible by the telco’s IP conversion and the rollout of vectoring technology, which has also enabled upload speeds of 40Mbps. Major cities that have benefited from the network upgrade work include Hamburg (875,000 households), Cologne (340,000), Berlin (350,000), Nuremberg (130,000), Leipzig (100,000) and Ludwigshafen/Mannheim (75,000).
