Globe signs licensing deal to use Roku streaming device

Globe Telecom Inc. has signed a licensing deal on internet-delivered TV services with US-based video streaming platform Roku Inc.

In a statement on Tuesday, Globe said the deal will allow it to leverage Roku's streaming platform including its operating system, channel store, and streaming players in accordance with Globe Streamwatch device to be launched next November.

"With the Roku Powered licensing program, telco operators such as Globe can launch internet-delivered TV services quickly by leveraging our powerful streaming platform,” Andrew Ferrone, vice president of pay TV at Roku, said.

“It is a logical next step for Globe to launch a streaming device to its customers to enhance their entertainment experience at home," Ferrone said.

Roku sells devices which stream internet-delivered content on the television screen.

“The collaboration with Roku allows us to give our customers more streaming device choices and a new streaming experience all together," Martha Sazon, senior vice president for Globe At Home, said.

Sazon said the Globe Streamwatch device will enable users to watch across free and paid channels without cable connection.
