Vodafone seeks 4G alliance with Surfline

Vodafone, Ghana’s second largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscribers, is seeking a partnership with 4G LTE provider Surfline Communications, reports Starr FM. Vodafone is said to be seeking to use Surfline’s LTEnetwork infrastructure to offer 4G services to its own customers, as currently the most advanced mobile technology offered by Vodafone in Ghana is 3.5G with a DC-HSPA+ and a HSDPA network. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Surfline activated its 4G network in the 2500MHz band in August 2014 and currently offers LTE services to the cities of Accra, Tema and Takoradi.

The National Communication Authority (NCA) has been made aware of the potential partnership, however, the process will be put on hold until the final details of the merger between Tigo and Airtel are completed.
