Morocco’s digital strategy brought to fore in Paris ‘Digital Africa’ conference

The conference took place earlier this week, under the theme “Digital Revolution on the Move,” reported Maghreb Arab Press (MAP).

Organized on the initiative of French news outlet, Le Point Afrique, the symposium was marked by the attendance of Chakib Benmoussa, the Moroccan ambassador to France.

During the event, Benmoussa emphasized Morocco’s efforts to accelerate the digital transformation of the national economy, noting the different strategies adopted by the kingdom for the development of this sector: The Morocco Numeric plan and the Digital Morocco Plan 2020.

The ambassador pointed out that Morocco adopted a draft law recently on the establishment of the Digital Development Agency (ADN), which aimed to position Morocco as a regional hub and African leader in this field. In August, Morocco’s House of Representatives unanimously adopted bill number 61-16 on the establishment of ADN.

Based in Rabat, the agency will have access to Morocco’s regional annexes and will publish an annual report on the digital development in Morocco.

Benmoussa stressed that digital has a special place in pragmatic cooperation, which link the kingdom with several African countries. He added that this cooperation involves both the public and private sectors.

“Digital is an essential factor in accelerating the development of the continent, especially as it creates the conditions for innovation in several sectors,” said Benmoussa.

Abdelmounaim Dinia, Deputy General Manager of Crédit Agricole du Maroc Bank, affirmed that “digital is the synonym of economic and social development.”

He added that it is one of the many changes that enable Africa to emerge as the continent of growth.
