Nordic Telecom to switch from CDMA to LTE

Nordic Telecom, one of the winners of the auction for frequencies in the band 3.7 GHz, has announced that it will switch from CDMA technology, which has lost the support of manufacturers, to LTE, reported mobilmania.cz. Nordic Telecom, which won the biggest part of the spectrum in the auction, will invest "hundreds of millions" of koruna.

Currently, Nordic Telecom, the successor company to Air Telecom, operating under the brand Ufon, operates a CDMA network in the band 420 MHz. Nordic Telecom provides fixed services, mobile voice and data services. It provides mobile voice and data services on the GSM network as an MVNO.

The new LTE network will provide a faster and more stable internet connection. The operator's existing customers served via the CDMA network will be gradually migrated to the operator's partner networks. They will be able to keep their services and the operator will provide free exchange of devices and SIM cards.

In future, Nordic Telecom may apply for spectrum in the band 700 MHz, which will be subject to an auction in 2020. If it succeeds, it may become a full-fledged competitor of the so-called Big Three, namely T-Mobile Czech Republic, Vodafone Czech Republic and O2 Czech Republic.
